Life@Hubble: Meet our Senior Product Manager, Simon

We’re back with our Life@Hubble series, where we profile our very own amazing team members across our offices! Joining us today in our Hubble Newsroom we have our Senior Product Manager Simon who brings a great sense of humour, an affable love for food to his product management role at Hubble. Read on to see what he has to say.

Tell me more about you, who is Simon?

I describe myself as a dream, a foodie, and all-around funny guy! I love dreaming of how things can be done in different ways or how I am able to make things easier for people around me.

Professionally, I’ve been in a myriad of industries – ranging from telecommunications, the maritime industry, healthcare and even working in the civil service. This wide breadth of experiences exposes me to how things are done in different industries and allows me to bring a range of techniques from multiple industries to my roles. I love the versatility!

Finally, food is life. I love travelling for bites and even use food as a metaphor to explain concepts to my clients and my peers. Read on to see this food metaphor in action…

Why did you join Hubble?

It happened by chance really. I was connected with Shijing (SJ) (Founder & CEO of Hubble) on LinkedIn and we were discussing topics related to agile product management. As we got to know each other, I learned more about SJ’s dream and mission for Hubble. I enjoyed what he shared with me and I remember telling myself I wanted to be part of his dream. So, here I am 1+ years later, pursuing our dream together.

How does your day-to-day look like at Hubble?

To describe my day-to-day life, let me use a food metaphor.

Imagine you are in a restaurant. As a Senior Product Manager, I act as the head chef who plans the menu; what to include and what should be removed from the menu based on the needs of the customers. Often, I need to talk to the restaurant’s patrons (our customers) and understand their desires. Once I understand what they desire, I recommend dishes that best suit their dietary preferences. I work with a team of talented chefs (our Engineering team) who look to me on what materials to prepare and the dishes to be prepared. Want it gluten-free? I got you covered.

My day to day involves talking and understanding my customers and market, planning the product roadmap and working with the engineers to build and test these products. Once we have something ready, we work with the product delivery, marketing and sales teams to plan how to communicate our new concoction with existing and potential customers. I’m also involved in change management to ensure our customers are ready to use our products and any new features or updates throughout the process.

What is your fondest memory of Hubble so far?

My fondest memory at Hubble thus far is the Hubble Unifies event we held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Singapore earlier in March 2021 when we launched our Integrated Digital Delivery (IDD) solution. This event was one months in the making; from planning the logistics of the event, the flow of activities and the content to share with attendees. We invited many partners and potential customers to join us and it was great to get a chance to engage with them and explain how IDD will fit their use and. It was also a fantastic opportunity to understand what are some of the challenges they have.

What do you do to unwind after the work day?

I find regular exercise the most effective way for me to unwind after a tough day. I’m an avid cyclist who enjoys riding in trails and Singapore’s park connectors on weekday nights if time permits. You’re welcome to join me if you’re also keen on cycling.

Is there something you’re looking forward to in the next six months?

I’ve been working on several new products which I’m very excited about. The release will address some of the key issues our customers are facing in the construction industry and I’m looking forward to seeing it in action. Stay tuned for more information in the coming months 😉
